Public Speaking

When you have finished your speech, take a moment to reflect.

Sit down calmly and try to do the exercise suggested for you below

Why is it worth stopping and reflecting after the meeting?

✅ From the level of emotions – it is good to check how you felt? What emotions accompanied you during the speech? Maybe some interesting reflection and feedback will come from the level of emotions.

✅ From the level of the body – it is worth remembering whether you felt at ease or rather tense. If there was tension, in which parts of the body the most? Maybe this is information to take care of relaxation, or maybe something moved you more than you think and your body is informing you about it. It is worth listening to it. Also remember what your body language was like, how you reacted.

Maybe it is worth considering sports or massage to relax?

✅ From the level of the speech itself – it is worth considering what you are very happy and proud of, and what you will do differently in the future.

Whether you are a beginner or a mature leader, it is good to find quiet time for reflection and conclusions.

✅ Work on your self-esteem. Adequate self-esteem is very helpful in navigating the public sphere. If you happen to be overly critical of yourself or analyze past events for a long time with the thought that you could have done better, it means it is time to work on your self-esteem.

There is a moment when it is worth telling yourself: I can do it, I am okay, and I do my best to make my public appearance good.

After your speech, talk to the people from your team who participated in it.

You can analyze the most important moments together.

Find out how people reacted, what the atmosphere was like in the room, what caught their attention. You can write down the most important conclusions, maybe they will be useful in the future.

It is good to analyze what the energy was like in the room, which parts of the speech caught the audience’s attention, and which seemed too monotonous.

A conversation with a person who was in the room can bring a lot of information about the dynamics of your speech and the energy among the audience.

When you are giving a speech, you are not able to catch everything, so we encourage you to be open to conversations with friendly people. Thanks to this, you can improve your public speaking skills and shape your image more consciously.

If the context allows it, do an evaluation after the event, you can also get useful information from it.

Talk to the Team about your influence and image. Ask for feedback. It is worth having an idea of how you are perceived, the point is that in the public sphere, the impression you make can have a very significant impact on the success of your ventures.

It is not about being artificial and completely different from what you are. It is not about dressing up as someone else. It is rather about consciously shaping your influence and building your brand. The more you work on self-awareness and self-esteem, the easier it will be for you to maintain authenticity in the public sphere. People have a sixth sense and natural awareness of artificiality and confusion, which is why it is worth paying attention to your inner strength and sense of agency as well as the well-being of your entire body.

Answer the questions:

✅ How do I want to be perceived?

✅ What image do I care about?

✅ How do I want to contact people?

✅ What do I want to leave in my private sphere?

✅ What do I need to achieve my goals in the public sphere?

The final step is to congratulate yourself and even celebrate your successful performance. Celebrating is good practice!

👉 During a speech, it is important to focus on the topic and the audience, not on yourself. People perceive you in real time and do not know what is on your mind, nor do they know your exact plan, which means that if you do something differently, most likely only you will know about it, so just continue.

It is useful to establish the framework and rules of the meeting, because it helps manage the energy of the audience and, especially during debates or discussions, it gives some order.

The better you know the topic and your reactions, the easier it will be for you to speak in public.

The tasks in this module will help you approach your self-presentation during public speaking consciously. Your presence at public events can be a powerful tool for building the image you want. Thanks to them, you can get closer to people and gain their trust.
