Instructions: This task will help you connect theory to practice by reflecting on your leadership style, your use of leadership vs. management behaviours, and your ability to lead proactively.

 

You’ll explore where your leadership stands today — and how you can grow with purpose.

 

Step 1: Leadership Style Reflection

 

Read the descriptions below. Which one(s) feel most natural to you? Which ones feel unfamiliar but interesting?

Reflect:

  • What style do you use most often?
  • How does it affect those you work with?
  • What style would you like to develop more?

 

Step 2: Lead or Manage? Identify Your Balance

Think about a project or group experience you’ve been part of.

  • When did you step into a leadership role (vision, inspiration, relationship-building)?
  • When did you step into a management role (planning, organizing, executing)?
  • Was there a balance? Would you approach it differently now?

Bonus: Create a simple list of your “Leadership Strengths” and “Management Strengths.” Consider how each helps you succeed — and where you could stretch further.

 

Step 3: Proactivity Check-In

Answer the following questions in writing or in discussion:

  • Do I tend to wait for problems or take early initiative?
  • What’s one situation where I could lead more proactively in the future?
  • What would I need (confidence, clarity, support, time) to make that shift?
