Ethical Leadership

Imagine you are a manager in a large company specialising in data analysis and processing for clients. Your team consists of ten employees of various ages. As their supervisor, you are responsible for addressing the following situations. How would you handle them? What solutions would you choose?

Scenario 1

One of your employees is expecting a baby. It is clear that childcare will be time-consuming. However, she would still like to continue working at least part-time, but she needs a flexible work schedule.

Reflection questions & proposed solutions:

  • What solution will you offer the employee as an ethical leader?
  • What factors will you need to consider, and what changes will you need to implement if you accommodate her request?

Scenario 2

A conflict has arisen between two employees working on the same team. They are accusing each other of failing to share information and submitting incomplete reports, which has led to unfulfilled commitments toward customers. It is also clear that there are personal tensions between them.

Reflection questions & proposed solutions:

  • How will you approach resolving this conflict?
  • What questions will you ask the employees?
  • What concrete steps will you propose to ensure the conflict does not happen again?

Scenario 3

One of your employees has been feeling dissatisfied and undervalued for a long time. If no changes occur, she is likely to leave. She has now approached you requesting a salary increase.

Reflection questions & proposed solutions:

  • How will you handle this situation?
  • What information will you gather from the employee to address the problem?
  • How will you consider the company’s compensation policies when making a decision?
