Psycho-education for Men in Higher Positions Regarding Women’s Leadership Challenges

Reflect on how communication habits shape inclusion and equity in your workplace. The following scenarios are designed to help you evaluate your communication style and identify opportunities for growth.

Scenario 1 – The Team Meeting
During a leadership meeting, a woman’s ideas are interrupted or redirected by others. You notice the imbalance but the discussion moves on.

  • How might you tactfully bring attention back to her contribution?
  • What communication practices could ensure equal participation in future meetings?

Scenario 2 – Feedback and Tone
You are giving feedback to a female colleague. While your intention is supportive, she appears uncomfortable and defensive.

  • How might your tone, phrasing, or body language have influenced the reaction?
  • What strategies can you use to convey feedback with empathy and clarity?

Scenario 3 – Modelling Inclusive Communication
You manage a mixed-gender team with different communication preferences—some more direct, others more reflective.

  • How can you adapt your approach to maintain fairness and understanding?
  • How do you set norms that encourage all members to express their ideas safely?

Reflection prompts:

  • Which aspects of your communication could unintentionally reinforce hierarchy or exclusion?
  • How do you model listening, curiosity, and empathy in your daily interactions?
  • What small change could you make tomorrow to promote more gender-responsive communication?
