About Course

Power is influence, and power enables influence. It is usually viewed negatively. This makes it harder for women to pursue positions of power. But what is power? How do societal frameworks and the actions of individuals interact? What makes it easier for women to take on leadership tasks — in a citizens’ initiative, a company, in politics, science, trade unions, churches, etc.? And how do they want to shape power? If women want to gain power and give it its own accent, they should develop their understanding of power. You will find suggestions in this module.

INTRODUCTION

CHAPTER 1: Power and Criticism of Power
💡 Guiding Questions: What is power? Why is it often viewed negatively? How can the power relationship and the power gap between the genders be meaningfully described? What inspiration does the critique of patriarchy offer for this?

CHAPTER 2: The Gender Power Gap Across Europe
Questions to reflect on In which countries of the European Union is the gender power gap still large, in which countries has a certain balance already been achieved? How do you explain the differences? How does the development of the gender pay gap present itself in your country? What progress has been made toward closing the differences? To what extent is there still a need for change? The public debates currently conducted seem to be characterized by contrasts. This also concerns questions of gender justice. Nevertheless, successes in the past have been achieved above all through public actions, campaigns, and discussions. One example of this is the right to abortion. When you think of the word “gender justice”: which aspect is most important to you right now? How should it be discussed publicly?

CHAPTER 3: Not Afraid to Take a Chance – Ways to Power
Questions to reflect on What can the public sphere achieve in order to attain more gender justice? What makes it easier for you to grow into positions of power? What inner barriers do you observe in yourself?
