RESILIENCE & SELF-CARE: How to overcome the gender power gap through building resilience, self-care and adapting to change.

Now let’s put everything into practice. In this assignment, you will use much of what you learned in the first chapter. First, list three situations for which you will design your own strategies to strengthen resilience to gender inequalities:

Β

Steps:

  1. βœ… Situation

Familiarize yourself with the following two situations:

  • “A young girl has decided to study nuclear engineering, but her family and friends discourage her from doing so.”
  • “The director of the sales division has decided to go on parental leave to replace his wife. However, his superiors and subordinates are not sympathetic.”
  1. βœ… Tasks

For each situation, now suggest a solution using these steps:

  • Identify the obstacles: what gender stereotypes are present in the situation? How can they influence individuals’ decision-making and career or life choices?
  • Apply the principles of resilience: what factors of innate and acquired resilience might help to manage this situation?
  • Suggest solutions: What concrete steps could a young girl or principal take to strengthen their resilience and overcome gender stereotypes? What role could the support of those around them play?
